• BACK STORY:
Lavenia Moreno is the third child of Gonzalo and Javiera Moreno, and although she and her twin brother Delmar were born only twenty minutes apart, she has always carried herself as the older sibling she is. From the moment she could talk it was evident that this young girl was born to be a leader, and lead she would to the extent that she could be considered controlling and bossy. She was never scared to say what she thought and this often got her into trouble. On more than one occasion she sent other children away in tears just by saying what she believed. Compassion and understanding were never this girl's strong suit, but she always had a knack for honesty and obedience.

Life wasn't perfect in the Moreno home, but they made the best of it. Many times, the four siblings would tag along with their father to the docks. The other kids seemed to really enjoy these trips, but Lavenia despised them. She loathed the docks. The ocean was her nemesis. It was cold, loud, and smelled like fish, but for some reason her siblings liked it. The only reason Lavenia joined them, after a series of tantrums and fussing, was because she didn't want to be alone. If their was anything she hated more than the sea, it was the idea of being by herself.

Lavenia was very young when life started to throw its curve-balls at her. When she was four, her older brother Azael left the home for a life from the streets. Before he had left, she remembers that the house always seemed to be in conflict in one way or another. The rebellious son and father could be heard fighting in the streets. When he was gone, the home was silent, but filled with a sort of bitterness. Lavenia always regretted how little she had known her brother, but they would meet again in a few years. Though the circumstances of his return were nothing to celebrate.

Four years after her brother had left, Cierra went missing. She was kidnapped from the streets. The final word came from Azael, who had come home in his distress. As happy as Lavenia was to see her brother again, he only seemed to bring more problems with him that night. Her parents had immediately blamed him and his influence for her disappearance. This was fight that she would never forget as she lay in her bed that night, listening to their shouting. It was not long after that the family received news that Azael was joining the Resistance. Lavenia wasn't happy with the news. She had just lost a sister and the last thing she wanted was to see Azael go, only after coming back, but she couldn't stop him.

After the loss of, not one, but two children, the Moreno family dynamic changed. Lavenia's parents became terrified of losing the twins, that the home had become a prison. The two weren't allowed to leave unless accompanied by on of the parents, and even then they were always hesitant to take them with them. Her parents weren't the only two to become paranoid. Lavenia, too, became scared of losing her one and only twin brother Delmar. It became very rare to see the two apart because she wouldn't have it any other way. Still, being cooped up inside the house 24-7 eventually got to the twins and they were able to convince their parents to let them get a job after a couple of years.

Delmar started by helping his father out at the docks, and Lavenia doubled up with her mother as a seamstress. It was at this time in her life that Lavenia found something else that claimed her hatred as much as the ocean: the factory. The air was dank and the room just sucked the life out of her. There was only so much sewing a girl could take before it drove her mad. She started acting out a little. She became more aggressive and her temper grew shorter. She even got into a few fights when things didn't go her way. This young girl started to develop a tom-boy side to her. Her parents didn't help much. She was constantly being reminded of the proper way for a "young lady" to behave, but she couldn't help who she was.

Eventually, her mother realized the the life of a seamstress was not the best fit for Lavenia. She needed a job that took her outside and kept her energetic spirit moving. Despite her mother wishes of keeping an eye on the kids at all time, she had to let Lavenia be Lavenia. At age eleven, she got a job as a delivery girl and Delmar joined her as a delivery boy since the parents didn't like the idea of either of them working alone. His presence even made the experience more fun as they would race each other through the streets on their bikes to see who could finish their deliveries on time.

Still, the one thought continued to nag at her. Where had Cierra gone?
